Three people in my immediate family - myself, husband, and 16 year old daughter.
About Me:
Avid lifetime gardener - focussed on food production gardening. I believe strongly in the concepts of the freedom garden - and have been living it for many years now.
Interests:
Food Production Gardening Food preservation and storage Simple Living Cooking (love to use what I grow!) Buying local for things I do not produce myself - such as grains, some fruits, dairy, eggs, and meat.
I produce 100% of my family's vegetable needs. Practice four season gardening and harvesting. Blessed to live in Cascadia Northwest which has a mild maritime climate that makes this easier than our old homestead in central Washington did.
Do not grow grains or dried legumes - know how to do both but have too limited of space with adequate sun on our current homestead and opt instead to buy these from local growers. Periodically grow dried beans in an amount sufficient to keep my saved seed stock viable and fresh (emergency seed reserve!).
Grow 100% of our vegetables and about 40% of our fruit needs on our property.
